What: Annual summer technology conference put on by Montana Programmers (MTP)

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE EVENT:
Big Sky Dev Con (BSDC) is dedicated to sharing knowledge with the Montana community about software development, tech business, design, and user experience. Organized by Montana Programmers, BSDC is set to reunite the tech community for an epic gathering of innovation, networking, and learning.
This year’s event features 6 hours of lightning-fast presentations—17 talks in total—covering everything from running LLMs on mobile and JSX without React to Rust-powered potato cannons, HTMX 3D games, and teaching Vim at scale. It’s a mix of real-world software, ridiculous side projects, and lessons from the edge of what’s possible in dev, design, and tech business.

Indigenous Digital Equity and Innovation Summit
What: Summit focused on expanding digital opportunities for Montana’s Indigenous communities, hosted by Accelerate Montana and their partners

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE EVENT:
Be part of the movement to expand digital opportunities in Indigenous communities. This impactful summit is open for all and is designed for Indigenous leaders, digital navigators, community members, educators, and entrepreneurs.
All participants will earn a digital credential upon completion of the summit, verifying their new skills and knowledge.
Enrolled members and descendants of federally recognized Tribes may select a sliding scale payment option and contribute what they are able.

This “visual encyclopedia”underpins the wildly popular iNaturalist and Merlin Bird ID apps, which have been downloaded over 30 million times.
Lorrie Cranor
Lorrie Cranor is a leading researcher in both online privacy and usable privacy and security, and has co-authored over 200 research papers in these areas. Cranor has appeared on the Today Show, CBS Sunday Morning, CNN Financial News, NPR’s Morning Edition, Science Friday, and All Things Considered. Her TED talk on passwords has been viewed over 1.6 million times!
Yasmin Kafai
Yasmin Kafai develops tools, projects, and communities that foster coding, critical thinking, and creativity. Her current research explores algorithm auditing in machine learning applications. Additionally, through the nationwide Exploring Computer Science curriculum, she launched the use of electronic textiles to introduce computing, engineering, and machine learning in high school classrooms.
Mitchel Resnick
Mitchel Resnick is the LEGO Papert Professor of Learning Research at the MIT Media Lab, where he develops new technologies and activities to engage people (particularly children) in creative learning experiences. His Lifelong Kindergarten research group developed the Scratch programming software and online community, which is used by millions of young people around the world.

MPQA Space-based Lidar Remote Sensing (SLRS) Techniques and Emerging Technologies Workshop
What: Workshop discussing critical topics related to current and planned space lidar missions, techniques, and emerging technologies, hosted by the Montana Photonics and Quantum Alliance (MPQA)

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE EVENT:
The 4th international Space-based Lidar Remote Sensing (SLRS) workshop offers a platform for scientists and technologists from various countries, government agencies, industry, and universities to meet and discuss critical topics related to current and planned space lidar missions, techniques, and emerging technologies.
Additionally, it will serve as an opportunity to address challenges and common issues while exploring ways to enhance collaboration among space agencies and organizations. This collaboration is essential for improving future active space-based remote sensing measurements and is open to anyone interested in the future of Space Lidar technologies.
Workshop goals:
Evaluate the scientific requirements for space-based lidar measurements, instrument synergies, and the readiness of lidar techniques to fulfill these requirements.
Introduce upcoming space-based lidar missions and present / discuss results from existing and past lidar space-based missions.
Explore the challenges and future directions in research and technology development.
Explore strategies to reduce risks and costs for space-based lidar instruments while enhancing mission longevity.
Identify synergies and ways to enhance space lidar missions through international cooperation among various space agencies and organizations.
Document the results in the completion and update of the white paper from prior workshop.
Keynote Speaker
Clayton Turner, Associate Administrator, Space Technology Mission Directorate
As Associate Administrator for the Space Technology Mission Directorate, Clayton oversees executive leadership, strategic planning, and overall management of all technology maturation and demonstration programs executed from the Directorate enabling critical space focused technologies that deliver today and help create tomorrow.
Clayton served as the Director of NASA’s Langley Research Center, Hampton, Virginia from 2019-2024. He led a diverse group of civil servant and contractor scientists, researchers, engineers and support staff, who worked to make revolutionary improvements to aviation, expand understanding of Earth’s atmosphere, develop new technologies for space exploration, and contribute to NASA’s broader exploration mission. Sherri Davidoff is the CEO of LMG Security and the author of three books, including “Ransomware and Cyber Extortion” and “Data Breaches: Crisis and Opportunity.” As a recognized expert in cybersecurity, she has been called a “security badass” by the New York Times. Sherri is a regular instructor at the renowned Black Hat trainings and a faculty member at the Pacific Coast Banking School. She is also the co-author of Network Forensics: Tracking Hackers Through Cyberspace (Prentice Hall, 2012), and has been featured as the protagonist in the book, Breaking and Entering: The Extraordinary Story of a Hacker Called “Alien.” Sherri is a GIAC-certified forensic examiner (GCFA) and penetration tester (GPEN) and received her degree in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from MIT.
Matt Durrin - Director of Training and Response, LMG Security
Matt Durrin is the Director of Training and Research at LMG Security and a Senior Consultant with the organization. He is an instructor at the international Black Hat USA conference, where he has taught classes on ransomware and data breaches. Matt has conducted cybersecurity seminars, tabletop exercises and classes for thousands of attendees in all sectors, including banking, retail, healthcare, government, and more. He is also the co-author of a new book, Ransomware and Cyber Extortion: Response and Prevention. A seasoned cybersecurity and IT professional, Matt specializes in ransomware response and research, as well as deployment of proactive cybersecurity solutions. Matt holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Montana, and his malware research has been featured on NBC Nightly News.
